Today I want to look at self-esteem. Poor self-esteem can certainly speed up the downward slide into depression!
SELF-ESTEEM.
Guard your self-esteem! Financial wealth and all the trappings related to success really do not make you into a more worthwhile person. Don’t make your bank balance an indicator of your worth. In the current economic climate this could really be problematic!!
Remind yourself that everyone on this earth, no matter what their personal circumstances might be, has the same worth. We all have the same worth just because we’re created and alive on this planet. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise! If someone tries to minimize your worth try and analyse what Faulty Thinking Patterns THEY are prone to. They are the one with a problem, not you! A critical person reveals more about themselves than about you.
Poor self-esteem can be a result of things that happened to you as a child, but you don’t need to hold onto those thoughts anymore. Discard them like dirty laundry!
Encouragement Well done for coming this far. Don’t ever go back to the belief that depression is just ‘the way you are’. You can have a life without depression. Be strong and carry on practicing the techniques you’ve learnt during this course. As for medication, some people do have to be permanently on anti-depressants. That’s okay! Let’s be thankful for the advances in medical science.
